Step-by-step guide: making an EcoBeautyScore scenario for a face cream

This guide shows how to make a scenario to obtain the EcoBeautyScore (EBS) from a beauty product already existing in Pilario

In the previous guide Step-by-step guide: Getting the EcoBeautyScore for a face cream, we covered the necessary steps to create a face cream in Pilario and obtain its EcoBeautyScore. Here, we will show how we can make ecodesign changes in our product and see the impact on the results.

We recommend you following the Step-by-step guide: Getting the EcoBeautyScore for a face cream before continuing reading this article. You can still create a scenario from scratch, but if you are new to Pilario it is easier to understand how scenarios work by having created a product first.

Making a test scenario

One of the most powerful features of Pilario is the ability to create scenarios from an existing product, this allows you to perform changes in the product and see the impact it will have against the original product.

Let's continue with the face cream example. In this scenario, we would want to evaluate what would be the impact of reducing the amount of product and keeping the same packaging (this is not very likely to happen but will be useful in our example).

Let's see the steps needed to create a scenario and see the results:

  1. In the upper right corner, go to the Actions button and select Create scenario
Notice how we have changed from the Product page to the Scenarios in the left menu
  2. By doing this a new scenario based on our original product is created, this means duplicating our original product and all its attributes but keeping a reference to it. Ideally, we would change the name and description to identify more easily our scenario later
    1. In the name, place the 50 ML to 30 ML.
    2. In the description, include something like Reduced product content
    3. Notice how the original product is referenced in the Product attribute
  3. Perform now the desired changes. In a real life scescenario,is might involve many changes, but in this case, we will just scroll down in the Description section and change the Claimed Mass/Volume of Formula (Primary Packaging level) from 50 to 30.
  4. Expand the results tab (via the arrow in the upper right corner)
  5. Navigate through the results and compare the fictional product and the original one. We can see how by reducing the amount of product but keeping the same packaging, our score has been degraded from A to B.

That's it! We have seen how we can quickly make changes in an existing product (without modifying the original one) and see the effects it would have in our EBS score. Go further an explore this on other products by tweaking many parameters in the ingredients, packaging, etc and make your products rank better!

This is an over simplification of a scenario, in a real life case you should make sure that both the original product and the new designed product include all the information needed to provide an accurate EBS score.
